"Beth is an absolute gem. She listens and takes time to understand. Very reassuring. She's very good at her job. Thank you"
Hi, I'm Beth.
I am a trauma-informed therapist offering 1-1 counselling sessions. My private space is based in Estover, Plymouth. I am an integrative counsellor, which means I use different modalities within my practice; Cognitive Behavioural, Psychodynamic and Person Centred Therapy. I offer open ended sessions, meaning you can have as many or as little sessions as you like, there's no minimum or maximum number of sessions you can have, and you can pay for them as you go.
The Basics....
I truly believe that the most important part of therapy is the relationship between the therapist and the client. Feeling safe is vital, so I offer a free 20 minute initial chat, either via phone call or video call (whichever you feel most comfortable with) to ensure it feels okay for both of us to work together. I know these initial meetings can feel really intimidating, but it’s a really good opportunity to ask anything you’d like to know. See FAQ’s for some ideas about what to ask your therapist.
Sessions are £50.
I don’t believe that therapy has a “one size fits all’ approach, so I will take the time to get to know you, build a relationship with you and really understand what you want out of therapy. Although you may see me as ‘the professional’, you are the expert on your life! I offer warmth and empathy, whilst also offering gentle challenge and observation to facilitate growth and exploration of self. I work with anyone aged 16+. If you have a specific thing or things that bring you to therapy, please find here a list of areas of counselling I deal with.
I am a full member of the BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists) please visit the website for further details – www.bacp.co.uk
I am fully insured and have an up to date DBS.
I look forward to hearing from you!

Frequently asked questions
A few answers to common questions about starting counselling and what you can expect.
How do I know if I need counselling?
Only you know if you need counselling. However, talking to someone in confidence that isn’t a friend or family member can be really useful. Similarly, how often do you feel able to sit down with someone, for 50 minutes, and talk solely about yourself, about things that may not necessarily come up in day to day conversation? A counsellor won’t always advise. The reason for this is that what works for one person, may not work for somebody else. Counselling provides an opportunity to speak openly and explore, rather than fix.
How do I know if my counsellor is the right one for me?
Feeling comfortable with your counsellor is vital, so I’d really encourage you to ask questions, be open about anything that doesn’t feel okay, and, if possible, give it a chance. Sessions are on a ‘pay as you go’ basis, so there is no obligation to continue at any stage. A sign that your counsellor is a good fit is that you feel ‘got’. We can discuss this in more detail during the initial chat.
What can I expect?
In the initial chat, I will ask you about what brings you to counselling, you can talk about as little or as much as you like, there is no expectation to delve deep into anything at all. You can ask me any questions you may have. I will then invite you to contact me should you wish to book a session, there is no obligation whatsoever if it doesn’t feel right for either of us.
During the first session I will explain my confidentiality policy, and we will discuss what you’d like to get out of the sessions. We might begin to explore some of what brings you to counselling, but only if and when you feel comfortable.
If you have any other burning questions, please do not hesitate to contact me, I’d be very happy to hear from you, there are no silly questions!
Can counselling help if I’m not sure what I’m feeling?
Absolutely. Many people come to counselling with a general sense of feeling stuck, overwhelmed or ‘not quite myself’. You don’t need to have the right words, in fact you may not have any words, together we can explore things to help you understand what might be going on.
